JBR UNIVERSAL DVD & CD PLAYER/TRANSCRIBER UNIT

JBR Technology, Inc., has designed and manufactured a micro-miniature electronic interface/timer/controller circuit that provides foot pedal control of the PLAY and BACKSPACE (skip back) functions. These modified players can be used to transcribe, review and present CD and DVD format recordings.

The fidelity of a CD will be clearly superior to a cassette recording. No cassette recorder can match the quality of a CD. The listener can hear the difference between a CD and a cassette copy of a recording. The CD's superior performance insures that the transcript prepared from a CD will be more accurate and complete than a transcript prepared from a cassette tape.

In addition, the CD recording is indexed to playing time. If the displayed time is entered in the transcript, an operator can go to a specific time and play back the specific statement. This cannot be done with a cassette copy.

PLAYBACK/TRANSCRIPTION CAPABILITY - CD's

  • Plays both 3" and 5" diameter CD's.
  • Plays CD-R's, CD-R/W's and CD-Audio. MP-3's encoded at 32 kilobits-per-second (kbps) to 320 kbps.
  • WMA (Windows Multi-media Audio) encoded at 48 kbps to 192 kbps.

PLAYBACK/TRANSCRIPTION CAPABILITY - DVD's

  • Plays DVD-RAM and DVD-Audio.

AUDIO OUTPUTS:

Limiter to Protect Listener's Hearing

The system has an electronic limiter with a limit indicator (LED) that indicates limiting. Recordings may contain loud noises (transients) that can over time damage a listener's hearing. The limiter prevents sounds from exceeding a safe listening level and lights an LED if the circuit is limiting the headphone level to alert the listener to reduce the headphone volume. But reducing the volume may prevent the listener from understanding quiet sounds. In this case, the limiter enables the listener to increase the volume which will cause the loud sounds to clip and increase the volume of quiet sounds making them easier to hear. This can increase the speech recovery of a recording that has very loud and extremely quiet sounds.

Dual Headphone Outputs

The system has two stereo headphone outputs with volume control.
